General Rules
WKF Rules to be used throughout with slight modifications as listed below. Any additional rule amendments will be explained at coaches meeting prior to the event
All competitors to wear a clean white traditional Karate Gi, as per WKF Rules Red and blue belts are compulsory for all events, with Kumite events also requiring the
Following;
Red and Blue mitts and gum shields. Chest protectors for females 14 years and over, all to be of the
WKF approved style
WKF style shin and foot protectors will be compulsory for all competitors 14 and over but would be
desirable for those 13 and under. 13 and under age-groups may wear the white cotton type
WKF style body armour and face masks are allowed but not compulsory
Competitors age as on day of competition
Incorrect entries will not be refunded and may not be re-allocated to correct divisions
Coaches Rules
Only 1 coach on an area at any time
All coaches to wear official tracksuit/Polo
Only coaches will be allowed to approach a referee regarding administrative issues. Absolutely no
discussions regarding refereeing decisions!
Coach’s packs will be available from 9.00am and will include 2 free coach passes for entries of up to
6 competitors, 3 passes for entries of over 6 competitors, and 4 passes for over 12 competitors.
Competitors must respect the officials as their club coach would expect them to!
Kata Rules
Any traditional Karate Kata may be performed, with the exception of weapons Kata. No bunkai
required!
Categories 1-5 to have both competitors perform simultaneously
Categories 1 2 4 14 Any Kata may be performed and repeated
Categories 3 5 8 11 15 16 17 18 19 must use two alternating Kata, e.g. Pinan Nidan, Kushanku, Pinan
Nidan. Competitors registered of 9th – 7
th Kyu in KA8 & KA11are allowed to repeat a single kata.
Categories 6 7 9 10 12 13 must use a different Kata in each round.
Kumite Rules
All matches to be 1½ minutes
All teams to be three persons (Minimum of two competitors)
No head or face contact in 13yrs and under age groups
Kick-Master Kumite
Kick-Master Kumite is for those youngsters 10 yrs and below. It consists of each competitor
simultaneously attacking their respective red or blue kick post for 25 seconds. The competitor who is
judged to have attacked most vigorously, most skilfully and most powerfully will be awarded the win.
Impact is expected Competitors will be judged as in Kata competition, with the three flag system
